Secondary Art Assistant AY2026-2027

An art assistant supports artists or art programs by managing studio or classroom operations, assisting with creative projects, and providing administrative and logistical support.

Key Responsibilities

• Studio or Classroom Support: Prepare and maintain art spaces, organize materials, and ensure a clean and safe environment for students or artists to work effectively 
• Creative Assistance: Help with the production of artworks, including mixing paints, priming canvases, assembling materials for sculptures, or guiding students in art projects 
• Administrative Tasks: Manage schedules, coordinate appointments, track attendance, maintain records, handle correspondence, and support exhibitions or gallery communications 
• Student or Client Interaction: Provide guidance, feedback, and encouragement to students or collaborators, fostering creativity and self-expression 
• Material and Equipment Management: Prepare, distribute, and store art supplies; perform routine maintenance on studio equipment 
• Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety guidelines are followed in classrooms or studios

Requirements

• Previous experience in an educational setting, particularly in an art-related role.
• Familiarity with a variety of artistic materials and techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work well with children and/or adults of different age groups.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Degree or coursework in art, education, or a related field is preferred.
