Is edtech a good career move for teachers?
Edtech can be a meaningful next step for teachers, but it is not a single kind of workplace or a guaranteed escape from the hard parts of education. The better question is whether a particular role, company, and work model give you the conditions you are looking for.
Name the conditions you need
Write down the conditions that matter most: compensation, location, schedule, autonomy, mission, collaboration, growth, travel, and the kind of problems you want to work on. This list helps you evaluate jobs consistently instead of relying on a title or a company mission statement.
Understand the tradeoffs
Edtech roles can bring different pressures: customer deadlines, changing priorities, sales cycles, travel, limited resources, or a need to learn a new domain quickly. A move can be worthwhile while still requiring adjustment. Use interviews to understand how the team handles those pressures.
Run a low-risk test
Read current postings, speak with people doing adjacent work, build one relevant work sample, and apply selectively. Those actions produce better information than trying to decide your entire future before seeing what the work and hiring process are actually like.
