Teacher skills that transfer to edtech roles

A classroom title does not fully capture the work behind it. Lesson planning can show curriculum design; family communication can show stakeholder management; and adapting instruction can show user research and iteration.

For each example, name the audience, the constraint, the action you took, and the result. That structure helps an employer understand how your experience applies beyond school walls.

Instructional design roles often value learning objectives, assessment, content development, and collaboration with subject-matter experts. Customer success roles can value onboarding, relationship building, product adoption, and clear communication. Product and implementation roles can value feedback analysis, facilitation, and change management.

Read a role description closely and use its language only where it accurately describes work you have done. Specific examples are more useful than a long skills list.

Collect a few work samples that demonstrate your process: a lesson sequence, training resource, communication plan, or a before-and-after example of an improvement. Remove student information and anything you do not have permission to share. A concise portfolio or résumé bullet is enough to begin.
