Career path
From teaching to customer success in edtech
Customer success in edtech helps schools and educators get value from a product after they adopt it. Former teachers often bring relevant experience: listening to needs, explaining complex ideas clearly, building trust, and guiding people through change.
Recognize the transferable work
Teaching requires you to understand different needs, make a plan, communicate it clearly, and adjust when something is not working. Customer success uses a similar mindset with customers, implementation teams, and product partners.
Look for examples where you onboarded colleagues, supported a new tool or process, gathered feedback, or helped a group move toward a shared outcome.
Use customer-centered language
On a résumé, make the relationship and outcome visible. Instead of only naming a responsibility, explain how you identified a need, supported adoption, resolved a barrier, or improved an experience. Honest examples of communication, facilitation, and follow-through are more persuasive than unfamiliar sales terminology.
Prepare for the interview conversation
Be ready to talk through a difficult stakeholder situation, a time you changed your approach after feedback, and how you prioritize competing needs. Learn who uses the company's product and what successful adoption might look like for them before the interview.
