Career path

From teaching to education partnerships roles

By Edtech.Careers Editorial Team3 min read

Education partnerships roles sit at the intersection of schools and an organization offering a product or service. They can include district relationships, program partnerships, account management, or community engagement, and the exact commercial responsibility differs by employer.

What sales work looks like

A partnerships professional may research a district or organization, prepare for stakeholder meetings, coordinate internal responses, maintain relationship notes, support renewal conversations, and help customers connect a product to a local need. Some roles have sales quotas; others do not. Treat those as different paths.

Where teaching experience is a real advantage

A strong transition story does not claim that teaching and this role are identical. It shows the repeated work behind your classroom title: diagnosing a need, designing an approach, communicating with people, and improving it when the evidence changes.

  • Communicating with families, administrators, and community partners with different priorities.
  • Building trust through preparation, follow-through, and clear documentation.
  • Understanding the constraints schools face when adopting a new initiative.

Close the right gaps before you apply

Choose one or two gaps to address with work you can show. A small, well-explained project is more useful than a long list of courses because it gives you something concrete to discuss in an interview.

  • Identify whether a target role is sales, account management, or program partnerships before applying.
  • Learn to discuss value and budget questions without overstating commercial experience.
  • Build examples of stakeholder alignment, not only one-to-one relationships.

Make the next 30 days specific

List three school or community partnerships you helped make work. For each, describe the shared goal, decision makers, communication cadence, obstacles, and outcome. That evidence is directly useful for partnership interviews.
